Whether this is your first time rescuing or you want to rescue another pet, you should contact a behaviorist dog trainer. You can have the behaviorist dog trainer meet your family at your home to talk about rescuing. Every pet has their own personality and traits; you can not go by just the breed of dog. It is important that you rescue a pet that fits within your family’s personality and life style. If you have little children, your parents are moving in, you are going back to work, what is your life style and so on. You can discuss all of this with a behaviorist dog trainer.
Do you rescue a puppy, kitten or an adult. Just because the dog or cat is an adult, does not mean they are not fun and can not learn new tricks! They can surprise you! I bet you find that they can teach you a few tricks, too. I will be interviewing Sue Carney about rescuing seniors in February.
Can you afford to rescue? The cost of owning a pet is around $500 to $1,200 or more a year. Look at your family budget. What would happen if one of you were to lose your job? Could you still afford to rescue? If you can not, then you can help out at your local shelter or give them a donation.
This is so critical. There is nothing worse for a pet to think they finally found a home, then to be returned back to a shelter.
I will go into more detail with Sue Carney from Real Life Canine Academy in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
